Day 1

India – Security forces on December 7, 2008 arrested 12 members of Laskhar-e-Taiba on the outskirts of Pakistani Kashmir’s main city. The terrorist group was believed to be responsible for the terror attacks on November 26, 2008 in Mumbai, which left 171 people dead in India’s commercial capital. Pray for God to close the door to demonic activity and violence in India. Pray that leaders of Lashkar-e-Taiba and other terrorists will experience conversion to Christianity. (1 Timothy 2:1–4) Pray that all planned terrorist acts will not occur. (Mark 4:22)  Pray for peace and communal harmony as well as healing in Mumbai. Pray also for protection, courage and hope for Indian Believers.

Mauritania – A $396,000 bail has been set for former prime minister Yahya Ould Ahmed Waghf, who was charged in November along with four other defendants of having deliberately driven Air Mauritania into bankruptcy. Ould Ahmed Waghf ran the airline from 2004 to 2006. He has also been charged over the purchase of spoiled food products as part of a program of buying emergency aid when he was the country’s premier.
Waghf and President Sidi Ould Cheikh Abdallahi were both overthrown August 6 in a military coup that has been condemned by the international community. Pray for justice in Waghf’s trial. Pray for a godly man to lead Mauritania and for the end of corruption in the West African country’s government.

Day 2

Sudan – Tension between the Sudanese government in Khartoum and the autonomous South Sudan region heightened during the weekend of December 6, 2008 as the Sudan Armed Forces deployed several battalions in the South Kurdufan district, which contains key oil fields and borders some of Sudan’s most sensitive areas, including the western Darfur region, southern Sudan and the contested town of Abyei. A southern official said the deployment of six northern battalions broke the terms of the constitution and the 2005 peace deal that ended two decades of north-south civil war. Pray for lasting peace and continued governmental stability in south Sudan. Pray that the Sudanese Church would be a beacon of hope and a model of reconciliation for the nation.

Afghanistan – On December 7, 2008, Taliban fugitive leader Mullah Omar, is believed to be sheltered by fiercely conservative tribesman on the Afghan-Pakistan border, said the planned increase in Western troops in Afghanistan will give his fighters incentive to kill and maim more Westerners than ever. Violence in Afghanistan has spiked in the last two years, and 2008 has been the deadliest year for Western troops since the 2001 invasion to oust Osama bin Laden. Pray the Taliban will be halted and peace and stability will come to the country. Pray that Mullah Omar will be found, punished and brought to justice.  (Mark 4:22) Ask the Lord to powerfully topple the demonic forces that are using the terrorists like puppets so that the people will be set free to worship the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:17) Pray for God to graciously reveal Himself to Afghanis who are not seeking Him (Isaiah 65:1) and to intervene to frustrate the ways of the Taliban (Psalm 146:9).

Day 3

Kuwait – Divisions within Kuwait’s ruling family are worsening a political crisis that has paralyzed legislation and threatened economic reforms. In November, the cabinet resigned after deputies moved to question the Gulf Arab state’s prime minister, a senior member of the royal family, over mismanagement charges and allowing the visit of an Iranian Shiite cleric to the Sunni-ruled country. Pray for the infighting in the ruling family to end. Pray also for the salvation of Kuwait’s ruling family. Pray that more Kuwaitis would open their hearts to Jesus, and accept Him as Saviour and Lord.

Bangladesh –Militant Islamism has been quietly taking ground in Bangladesh. Terrorist incidents and assaults against Christians has increased with the Talibanization of the country. Pray for political stability, and for wise and godly leaders to be elected. Pray for peace and an end to corruption in the government. Pray for the government to strongly enforce, not only religious freedom, but also the freedom to convert from one belief system to another. Pray for an immediate end to the persecution of Christians.  Pray that Shari’a law will not be enforced.

Day 4

Japan – Japan fell into a deeper recession in the third quarter of 2008 than first thought, the government said, as exports weakened, domestic demand fell and companies bracing for a prolonged downturn pared inventories. Pray for God to use the recession to cause repentance among materialistic Japanese. Pray that Japanese would increasingly be open to hearing about God, and accept Him as Lord and Saviour.

Guinea-Bissau – Guinea-Bissau’s President Joao Bernardo “Nino” Vieira survived an attack by renegade soldiers on November 23, 2008, two days after parliamentary elections. Navy sergeant N’tchami Yala was arrested December 2, 2008, for masterminding the coup attempt. Pray for stability for Guinea-Bissau’s government, and they will govern based on Biblical principles. Pray for peace as well as the end of the narcotics trade and organized crime in Guinea-Bissau. Pray that God will reveal Himself to the people in Guinea-Bissau through dreams and visions. Ask the Lord to send forth laborers into Guinea-Bissau.

Day 5

Bhutan – Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, 28, succeeded his father on the Golden Throne to become Bhutan’s fifth monarch on November 6, 2008. Wangchuck’s father, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, enforced democracy and then took it away more than two years ago. Pray for the salvation of Wangchuck, his family and Bhutanese government leaders. Pray that God will turn the hearts of Bhutanese Buddhists to Jesus, and open their blind eyes to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord.

Saudi Arabia –More than 2 million Muslims flooded Mecca for the annual ritual of the Hajj, the pilgrimage every Muslim is supposed to make at least once, Saudi Arabia reportedly plans to modernize Islam’s holiest site. The multi-billion-dollar enterprise is expected to be the world’s largest architecture renovation project and include luxury hotels and residential skyscrapers. The king of Saudi Arabia is reportedly involved in planning the renovation, slated to be completed by 2012. Pray for Saudi Muslims to have visions and dreams of Jesus. Pray that God would break open doorways into Saudi Arabia, one of the least evangelized nations in the whole world. Pray for the protection of Believers in Saudi who face imprisonment, torture and even execution, and for the salvation of all people in Saudi Arabia.

Day 6

Guinea – Bank and insurers in Guinea began a nationwide strike on December 1, 2008 to demand a doubling of their salaries. Workers in the industry are also demanding improved medical and retirement benefits. The work stoppage resulted in queues at banks in the capital, Conakry. Less than 5% of Guinea’s population is Christian, and mostly concentrated in a few ethnic groups. Pray that these Christians can make a radical difference in the lives of their families and communities. Pray that missionaries can effectively lead this nation to Christ.

Thailand – Thailand’s Constitutional Court ordered the dissolution of the governing party and banned Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat from politics for five years
on December 2, 2008, plunging the country deeper into a political crisis. Pray for the salvation of Wongsawat and other government leaders. Pray also for peace, political stability and the end to government corruption. Pray that religious liberty will continue, increase, and not be restricted in any way. Pray for religious acceptance so that Christians who convert from Buddhism will not face social or pressure from their family because of their choice.
Day 7

Niger – With a population of 12.5 million, Niger is one of the 10 poorest countries in the world. Drought is a common natural calamity in Niger. It often undergoes a phase of severe food crisis and 63 percent of its total population lives on below $1 a day. Adult literacy rate is 15 percent. Many Christians in Niger are isolated and as many cannot read, it is very difficult for them to know what the Bible says. Pray that everyone will be able to read and write in this land. Pray for loving and godly leaders who can take on the challenge. Pray for the Lord to restore the land with enough annual rainfall for the crops to flourish that will counteract all the devastation and food shortages in Niger.

Kyrgyzstan – The country’s parliament unanimously passed legislation on November 6, 2008 to strengthen government control over religious groups, a move critics have attacked as a breach of international human rights standards. Under the bill, telling others about Jesus would be strongly restricted in the impoverished, mostly Muslim Central Asian nation. The President Kurmanbek Bakiyev is expected to sign the bill into law. The U.S. State Department said in a recent report that the government has harassed and refused to register some Christian churches. Pray that the bill will be rejected by Bakiyev. Pray for more Kyrgyz to learn the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and for multiple thousands to come to Christ, and to be mentored in the Way, in the next 30 days.

Day 8

Iran – In response to a year of persecution and the eminent passing of a law making the death sentence mandatory for all Muslim men who turn to Christ, and life imprisonment for Muslim women who turn to Christ, Iranian church leaders called for prayer and fasting from November 21-23, 2008. Pray for the protection of Muslim Background Believers. Pray for Iranians to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and accept Him as Lord and Saviour.

Burkina Faso – Despite a 2008 rice harvest over three times that of 2007, local rice prices remain out of reach for many consumers. Burkina Faso was hit by violent demonstrations early this year due to food price hikes. Pray for a set price for all local rice to be made affordable. Burkina Faso is dominated by idol worship, secret societies and the occult, even in some churches. Pray that the power of the occult would be broken and the Truth of Jesus would not be compromised. Pray that everyone will come to know Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Day 9

Mali – Tuareg rebels met Malian government ministers on November 15, 2008, in a bid to restart a peace process following a series of armed attacks and kidnappings. The Tuareg are nomads who have roamed the southern Sahara for centuries. Tuareg rebels have staged uprisings in recent years in both Mali and neighboring Niger, claiming autonomy for their traditional homeland. Pray for a peace deal to be completed between Tuareg rebels and the Malian government. There are a few small groups of Christians among the Tuareg peoples and a rough translation of the Bible is available in their language. Pray for God’s laborers to be sent to the harvest field of the Tuareg people to lead them to Christ and show them His Way.

Azerbaijan – President Ilham Aliyev was was sworn in for a second term in November after winning the October 15, 2008 election with 89 percent of the vote.
Opposition parties boycotted the election, and monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe criticized the poll’s shortcomings. Pray for the salvation of President Aliyev and other government leaders. Christians across Azerbaijan live under the threat of government harassment. The country’s religion laws can be harsh, imposing severe penalties on violators. Pray for churches facing government pressure to remain living epistles of men, and lead others to Jesus, and show him His Way. Pray that they will stand firm in their ministry.

Day 10

Benin – A government in a Western country recently stepped up its educational and health aid to Benin. Pray for Benin to have wisdom in managing and distributing the aid. More people follow traditional ethnic religions in Benin than in any other African nation. Voodoo has its origins in the ethnic religion of the Fon peoples and many are bound in fear and superstition. Pray that people will discover the freedom in Jesus, and not live in fear Pray for Christians to reach out to the 20 percent of Muslims living in Benin with the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Indonesia
Local officials demanded that a Baptist Church in Bekasi, West Java, stop all religious activities on November 21, 2008, and restore the worship center to its original business function—a home used as a store. Additionally, more than 30 other churches in 2008 faced similar problems such as having their permits revoked, shut down or demolished.  Pray that the House Church Movement will grow rapidly in this land, and that Believers will receive divine strategies on how to reach the lost for the Lord. Ask the Lord to grant them favor from local officials, interfaith bodies and their non-Christian neighbors.

Day 11

Laos – Three Christian prisoners were released on October
16, 2008 against the wishes of the village chief in Boukham in Savannakhet province, who had threatened to hand them a life sentence at a maximum-security prison. Praise God for their release and pray for their continued protection. Pray for those in authority to allow true religious freedom. Despite restrictions and persecution, the church in Laos is growing. There have been reports of whole villages turning to Jesus. Thank God for his faithfulness and the faithfulness of his Church in Communist-ruled Laos.

Western Sahara – In an unprecedented warning to neighboring countries, Morocco’s king Mohammed said on December 1, 2008 that any future independent state in the disputed Western Sahara could harbor terrorists and bandits. Western Sahara has been a disputed territory since Spain withdrew in 1975. Morocco controls 80% of the land, while the remaining 20% is controlled by the Polisario, an independence movement established in 1973, and the government of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic. Pray for a fair and speedy resolution to the disputed Western Sahara. Ask the Lord to bring a lasting peace in the Western Sahara region, as He is the Prince of Peace.  Pray for revival to break out in this land with multiple thousands coming to know the Lord in the next 30 days.

Day 12

Egypt –Egyptian human rights workers are looking to international bodies for support against Muslim judges who use Shari’a to undermine custody rights of Christian mothers. Despite provisions such as Egyptian law’s Article 20, which dictates that minors should remain with their mother until age 15, judges consistently rule in favor of Muslim fathers in custody disputes with Christian mothers. Pray that Egypt will follow the provisions dictating that minors stay with their Mothers until age 15. Pray that the government will allow all of its citizens to freely practice their faith. (Psalm 97:7)

Uzbekistan – The government is cracking down on Christians throughout their country.
Churches are being taken by the government through tax and regulation policies, pastors have been arrested and fined up to one year’s wages, individual believers fined and Christian literature confiscated. Raids are increasing. Pray for protection, safety and boldness for Christians under attack. Pray that the Church will multiply beyond measure for the glory of God.

Day 13

Nepal – The Christian community in Nepal celebrated its first official Christmas—the first ever to be marked as a public holiday in Nepal, a predominantly Hindu nation. Twenty years ago, being a Christian was illegal. Praise God for Nepal recently becoming a secular state. Ask the Lord to soften the hearts of Nepalese towards the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and accept Him as Saviour and Lord.

United Arab Emirates –Pray that God will save United Arab Emirates President Sheik Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and other key Emirates leaders who will one day boldly declare the Lordship of Jesus. Many Muslims are in daily contact with Christians who could be arrested for sharing their faith. Pray that Christians would be able to find opportunities through friendships to be open about what they believe. Pray for revival to break out in this land, that cannot be squashed out by the government, with multiple thousands coming to the Lord in the next 30 days.

Day 14

Albania – North Atlantic Treaty Organization foreign ministers said on December 3, 2008 that they expected Albania to become the alliance’s newest members by April 2009.

Pray for the salvation of the country’s leaders, including President Bamir Topi. Most ethnic Albanians are Muslims and live outside Albania  in Kosovo or Macedonia. Pray that they would have opportunities to hear and accept the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Morocco – Morocco established a new committee on December 3, 2008 to monitor the national Democracy and Human Rights Action Plan. Pray that the various international and human rights treaties would be adhered to, notably that torture would not be used in security related incidents. Pray that Morocco remains a peaceful country for all citizens. Pray for a speedy resolution of the disputed Western Saharan region.  Pray that the Kingdom of God will be firmly established in this land.

Day 15

Iraq – After thousands of Christians fled the northern Iraqi city in terror in mid-October 2008, many of the refugees have returned home, but Church leaders say that some fear a new wave of sectarian violence. Iraqi police now guard churches throughout the tense, battle-scarred city of Mosul, where once-dominant insurgents have lost ground in the face of a large-scale offensive by U.S. and Iraqi security forces. Pray for the end of the genocide of Christians. Pray for peace, comfort, hope and provision for returning refugees. Pray for revival to break out in this land with multiple thousands of new Believers coming to the Lord in the next thirty days.

Sri Lanka – Tamil Tiger, also known as the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), rebels were trapped in a single district in Sri Lanka’s Northern Province on December 9, 2008. The army called upon the rebel cadres to surrender in the face of the military’s relentless onslaught against the LTTE. The LTTE has been fighting for a separate state in the north and east since July 1983. More than 70,000 people have been killed in the island’s civil war—one of the longest in Asia. Pray for the defeat of LTTE, and that no other terrorist groups will form in its place. Pray for all the children and adults coping with the trauma of the experience of war, and that they will be comforted by the Holy Spirit.  Pray for the salvation of all people in Sri Lanka.

Day 16

Israel – Police raised their alert level in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area in December following a warning on Palestinians’ plan to carry out a terror attack. Roadblocks were set up in the entrances to and exits from Tel Aviv, causing traffic jams. Pray that Hamas and all terrorist attacks will be exposed and thwarted in Israel. Pray for secure borders in Israel.  Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

Tajikistan – There was renewed activity recently in Tajikistan’s parliament on a religious law, which has many religious communities concerned. Pray that parliament will not write any bills that will threaten religious freedom in this land. Pray that true religious freedom will be enforced in this land.  Pray that God will surround Christians in Tajikistan with His shield of protection and will send angels to minister to them as heirs of salvation. (Psalm 29:11, Hebrews 1:14) Pray that the church will grow here in record numbers, and that the Kingdom of God will be firmly established in this land.

Day 17

China – China Aid Association has learned that from the end of September through early November, large numbers of police were dispatched to raid house church gatherings in Beijing and in areas near college campuses in Hangzhou. More than 400 Christian college students were arrested and interrogated. Pray that the world would speak out on the issue of human rights violations and that the Church would not be silent to speak of the bad things happening to persecuted Christians. Pray that members of the underground church have wisdom to know how and where to meet. Pray that they find creative ways—“God ideas”—to safely share their faith in a hostile environment. (Psalm 112:6-8) Thank God for the rapid growth of the Church in this land.

Djibouti – Yemen and Djibouti discussed on November 29, 2008 the necessity of coordinating both countries efforts with international forces to combat piracy and secure international navigation in the region. Pray that pirates in the region will be thwarted and held with increased accountability for their actions. Pray for effective security to be provided by the Djibouti army and police, so that citizens will not have to take the law into their own hands. (Proverbs 10:9)

Day 18

Yemen – Yemen appears to have claimed a rare victory against Al Qaeda with help from a country in the West but analysts and diplomats warn that militants still pose a threat in a country where arms are plentiful and sympathy for the Al Qaeda network’s holy war against the West runs high. Pray for Yemen to be more consistent and proactive in putting down Al Qaeda-linked Islamic militants and local extremists. Pray for the government to have the resources to prevent terrorism financing. Yemen is one of the least evangelized countries in the world. Pray that the Gospel be preached to everyone in this land, and that they will accept Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Vietnam – In violation of Vietnam’s new religion policy, authorities in Lao Cai Province in Vietnam’s far north are pressuring new Christians among the Hmong minority to deny their faith, and to re-establish ancestral altars, according to area Church leaders. Pray that members of the Vietnamese underground Church have wisdom to know how and where to meet. Pray that they find creative ways—“God ideas”—to safely share their faith in a hostile environment. (Psalm 112:6-8) Pray for true religious freedom in this land.

Day 19

Taiwan – Setting aside decades of animosity, Taiwan and China on November 3, 2008, agreed to expand passenger and cargo flights and allow shipping links across the Taiwan Strait, an area that has long threatened to become a war zone. The historic deal highlighted the dramatic improvement in relations in the past half year between the rivals that split amid a bloody civil war in 1949. Praise God for the deal. Pray for the relationship to remain peaceful. Pray for religious freedom to remain strong in Taiwan. The people of Taiwan have been slow to respond to the Gospel.  Pray the Kingdom of God will be firmly established in this land.
Bahrain –  A country in the West and Bahrain delegates recently had an in-depth discussion about terrorism, the rapid production of weapons, and enhanced maritime security and defense in the Persian Gulf. Pray for the government of Bahrain to be steadfast in combating and financing terrorism.  Pray for Bahrain to continue to actively monitor terrorist suspects. Pray for Bahrain to abolish Shari’a law. Pray for revival to spread in this nation like a rushing mighty wind, with multiple thousands coming to the Lord in the next thirty days.

Day 20

Brunei – Brunei and twenty other 20 member nations of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation vowed to enhance human security and combat terrorism on November 23, 2008 during a summit. Pray for the Brunei government to continue its support to fight against terrorism. Proselytizing by faiths other than the officially sanctioned branch of Islam is not permitted. There are no missionaries reported working in the country. Pray for true religious freedom in Brunei.  Pray for everyone to come to the Lord, to know Him as their personal Lord and Saviour.  (John 3:16)

Lebanon – The leader of an Al Qaeda-linked Lebanese group has reportedly been killed in Syria, according to a statement posted by the faction on an Islamic militant website on December 9, 2008. Shaker al-Absi went on the run in 2007 after his group, Fatah Islam, battled the Lebanese army for weeks inside a Palestinian refugee camp in northern Lebanon. Pray that the demonic forces that are using terrorists groups Al Qaeda and Fatah Islam like puppets will be toppled, and that the people will be set free to worship the Lord. Pray that their leaders will experience conversion to Christianity. (1 Timothy 2:1–4)  Pray for the protection of the Believers as they share the good news of the Gospel with others.

Day 21

Qatar – Qatar celebrated the 60th anniversary of the International Human Rights Day on December 10, 2008. Qatar is an active member of the Human Rights Council in Geneva. The strict form of Sunni Islam, Wahhabi, is the state religion. Although telling Muslims about Jesus is strictly forbidden, Christians from other countries are allowed to meet together to worship. Pray for Muslims to encounter Jesus in their dreams. Pray that they would grow as disciples in Christ, and that revival will spread in this land with multiple thousands of new Believers would be added to the Kingdom of God in the next 30 days.

Turkmenistan – Protestants have told Forum 18 that lower level harassment continued through the year, though pressure is increasing again. Protestants in Serdarabad district near the northeastern town of Turkmenabad (formerly Charjew) in Lebap region have again come under pressure from local imams in November. Forum 18 said the pressure on local Protestants increased after a senior religious affairs official visited the region from Ashgabad. Pray for true freedom of religion in Turkmenistan.  Pray for the salvation of the imams and other political and spiritual leaders.

Day 22

Ethiopia – Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa has a population of 2.4 million and Christians make up 62% of Ethiopia’s population with a large increase among Protestants, according to a new census report from Ethiopia’s Central Statistics Agency. Orthodox Christians, traditionally the dominant church in Ethiopia, now comprise 43.5 percent of the population compared to over 50 percent in 1994. Praise God for the growth of the Protestant Church. Pray that these Christians would continue to have a real passion for evangelism. Pray also for real spiritual growth and discipleship in the Church.

Myanmar – Courts in military-ruled Myanmar sentenced at least seven democracy activists to prison on November 17, 2008, continuing a crackdown that saw about 70 people jailed. The courts’ actions seemed designed to keep them jailed long past elections scheduled for 2010, to be held under a new constitution that critics claim is designed to perpetuate the military’s dominant role in politics. Pray for Myanmar’s peace and for the country to turn toJesus, especially Myanmar’s leader, Than Shwe. The military regime actively promotes Buddhism and there is much discrimination against Christians. Pray for God’s protection and favor to be upon Christians as they do their part to expand the Kingdom of God in this land.

Day 23

Chad – The European Union sent troops in December to eastern Chad, where internally displaced Chadians and refugees from neighboring Darfur have camped because of fighting in Sudan’s Darfur region. The United Nations reported that there have been more than 120 serious incidents against non-governmental organizations this year such as carjackings, robberies and four killings in eastern Chad. Pray for peace and calm for eastern Chad. Pray that the churches in Chad would grow and mature in their faith and discipleship. Many congregations mix Christianity up with other ideas and beliefs and can be legalistic. Pray that the Holy Spirit would be working to bring true freedom in their lives, and for the salvation of all of the people of Chad.

Algeria – Algerian lawmakers on November 12, 2008 overwhelmingly approved a controversial revision to the nation’s constitution that lifts the limit on presidential terms, which would allow President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to stand for a third five-year term in April 2009—a contest he is widely expected to win. Pray for the salvation of President Bouteflika and other government leaders. Pray that President Bouteflika will rule justly for the benefit of all citizens. Pray for increased and true religious freedom in Algeria.

Day 24

Libya – The Foreign Affairs Department of a country in the West,  appointed an ambassador to Libya in November for the first time in 36 years, further normalizing relations between the two countries. Pray that Libya will continue to be diligent in its counterterrorism efforts. Praise God for the openness being displayed by the Libyan government, and pray that it will lead a great improvement in true religious freedom and human rights.  Pray that the Kingdom of God will be firmly established in this land.

Malaysia – Malaysia recently released five men held under suspicion of terrorism, including one believed to be linked to the September 11 attacks that took place  in the United States. West. A man linked to the Jemaah Islamiah militant network had been freed on December 4 along with two from a Thai separatist group and two Malaysians suspected of working for foreign intelligence groups. Pray that the terrorist group Jemaah Islamiah and all other terrorist groups will be thrown into confusion, and will not be able to re-group, recruit, or have the capacity to be disruptive. Growing Islamic culture in Malaysia could make it harder for Malay Muslims to hear the truth about Jesus. Pray that Christians will share the Gospel with non-Believers in this land, leading them to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Day 25

Oman – Oman’s top religious scholars, in their Eid sermons on December 10, 2008, underlined the importance of the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Mecca. The Grand Mufti, Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalili exhorted Muslims to be pious and obey Allah the Almighty.  Take authority over the spiritual principalities and powers that have kept the Muslims in bondage. Ask the Holy Spirit to supernaturally reveal Jesus to Oman Muslims as the way to true peace.  Pray for multiple thousands of new Believers will come to know the Lord in the next 30 days.
Kazakhstan – A Kazakh draft law passed by parliament that tightens control over nontraditional religious activities is causing heated debate in Kazakhstan. Yevgeny Zhovtis, chief of the Kazakh Bureau on Human Rights, said on December 2, 2008, that if President Nursultan Nazarbaev signs the legislation, the country would return to an era of totalitarian control. Pray that President Nazarbayev will not sign the draft law. Pray for increased religious freedom in Kazakhstan.  Pray for the Kingdom of God to be established in this nation.

Day 26

Tunisia – President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali of Tunisia freed several prominent political prisoners on November 5, 2008, and Human Rights Watch urged authorities to release all persons held for nonviolent political activities and to end the harassment of former political prisoners. Pray that the government of Tunisia would govern justly and with wisdom. Pray that Tunisian society openly accepts Tunisian Christians. Pray that revival will break out in this land, and everyone will come to know the Lord.

Cambodia – The United Nations and the government of Cambodia agreed in principle on December 10, 2008 to strengthen measures to prevent corruption among staff at the country’s genocide tribunal. The tribunal will try senior members of the communist Khmer Rouge, whose radical policies caused 1.7 million deaths when the group was in power in 1975-79. Pray that justice will be done in the prosecution of those involved in the mass killings during the Khmer Rouge regime. Pray for continued healing for Cambodia from the genocide. Pray that God would strengthen the Church leaders in Cambodia, and that they would be innovative in discipling new Believers in the Way of the Lord.

Day 27

Turkey – TURK-7 is a Christian television channel broadcasting programming to 70 million Turkish-speaking viewers in Turkey- plus another 10 million other Turks in Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East. While the Turkish constitution includes freedom of religion, worship services are only permitted in “buildings created for this purpose,” and officials have restricted the construction of buildings for minority religions. Pray for opportunities for Christians in Turkey to share the truth of who Jesus is with those around them. Pray all restrictions will be lifted, and Believers will be able to freely worship in this land.

North Korea – The North Korean border patrol reportedly have a “shoot-on-sight” order for North Korean refugees (NKRs) trying to cross the border illegally into China. Widespread house-to-house checks by Chinese police in border areas were administered to ferret out NKRs in Chinese households over the past few months. Pray for North Koreans who live in squalor and whose lives are threatened by mere attempts to provide food and other necessities for their families. Pray for God to send necessary forces to rescue these people from harm. Pray the Lord will provide all of their need according to His riches in Glory.  (Philippians 4:19) Pray for the regime of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il to fall this year.

Day 28

Somalia – Islamic militants waging jihad in Somalia have assassinated some 24 aid workers so far this year. When they captured a 25-year-old humanitarian aid worker in September they did not merely kill him because he had left Islam and converted to Christianity in 2005, but they beheaded him in a public spectacle. Pray that God will use the witness of this young Christian martyr to win many Somalis to Christ. Pray for the protection and safety of those delivering vital food aid and medical care to Christians. The Somali church has been driven totally underground; some leaders have been named on a hit list for execution. Pray that God would protect them, they would remain strong in the Faith, and lead unprecedented numbers of people to Christ.

Pakistan – Al Qaeda and Taliban jihadists have captured most of the northwest Federally Administered Tribal Areas, and were now terrorizing Peshawar, the capital city of North West Frontier Province (NWFP). The church in NWFP is greatly at risk, according to Christian groups in the area. Pray for God to protect Christians in NWFP, and all of Pakistan. Pray the Believers would stand firm in the authority of Jesus and have the courage to share their faith and lead others to Christ despite the troubles they face.
Day 29

Nigeria – Following local elections, hundreds of people were killed and an estimated 7,000 to 10,000 fled their homes in two days of rioting that started November 28, 2008  between mainly Muslim Hausa people and mainly Christian Berom people in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, Nigeria. Christian leaders in Jos believe that the riots were coordinated and planned, and that the political events were used as a pretext for anti-Christian violence. Psalm 91 protection for Believers in Jos, and throughout Nigeria, who are targeted by Muslims. Pray for Christian leaders in Nigeria to remain strong in the Lord, and that they will have proper direction to minister and disciple the Believers who have been displaced.

Maldives – Maldives’ Ministry of Islamic Affairs announced on November 29, 2008 that it would block a Dhivehi and English language Web site, which it claimed was promoting Christianity amongst Maldivians. Pray for total religious freedom in Maldives.
Pray that the Lord will save key Maldivian leaders who will boldly declare the Gospel to their own people. Ask God to strengthen, encourage, and protect the small number of Maldivian Christians, and that their will be a revival in this land with multiple thousands of new Believers coming to the Lord in the next 30 days.

Jordan – Jordan and the European Union on December 3, 2008 launched a project to boost the kingdom’s efficiency in fighting terrorism and organized crime. Pray for Jordan to continue to cooperate in anti-terrorism and anti-organized crime measures. Pray for the Christian refugees residing in Jordan that they be anointed with fresh courage and strength.  Pray that the Kingdom of God will be firmly established in this land.

Senegal – Despite progress, Senegal remains a poor country, with an average yearly income of about $850 per person. Poverty has dropped from 68 percent in 1994 to about 50 percent today. But such poverty remains widespread, limiting opportunities for many Senegalese. Especially hard hit are the extremely young: One out of every four children under age 5 is malnourished. Pray for the end of poverty, and for malnutrition among children to be eliminated. Pray that God will open the hearts of Senegal’s governmental leaders to the Gospel, they will receive Jesus as Lord, and  they will govern the people based on Biblical principles.

Day 30

Eritrea – Eritrea’s government has launched a fresh crackdown on Christians with reports that at least 110 evangelical believers have been detained since mid-November. The Christians were arrested in all parts of the country except for the capital, Asmara. Already some 2,000 Christians are detained in Eritrea, including in controversial prisons, police buildings, military camps and even metal containers. Some have been held for years without a fair trial. Pray that Eritrea would finally implement its 1997 constitution, which provides for religious freedom. Pray for God to sustain and protect Christians in prisons, who are said to have insufficient food. Pray that the Believers will evangelize those who are also imprisoned with them.

Tibet – The use of torture in the restless Chinese region of Tibet is widespread and routine and officials regularly ignore legal safeguards supposed to be in place to prevent it, a new report said on December 10, 2008. Even when detainees are released, they may die of their injuries, be scarred for life mentally or physically and not be able to afford medical treatment or be denied it completely. Pray for the end of the use of torture in Tibet. Pray for all persecution and torture to stop immediately. Pray for the protection of qall Believers in this land. Pray that Mongolians would find total freedom in following Jesus. Pray that the Kingdom of God will be firmly established in this land.

Syria – A Western country and the European Union said on November 28, 2008 that they were disturbed by apparent Syrian efforts to “sanitize” sites United Nations inspectors want to examine in a probe into alleged covert nuclear activity.  The Western nation accused Damascus of adopting Iranian tactics to impede a nuclear watchdog investigation into what officials say was a secret atomic reactor that could have made plutonium for atom bombs, if Israel had not bombed the site last year. Pray that Syria will stop any nuclear bomb plans. Pray that tensions across religious and ethnic lines be removed.  Pray for the salvation of all Syrians.

Mongolia – Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo and Mongolian Parliament Chairman Damdin Demberel vowed on December 10, 2008 to step up inter-parliamentary cooperation in fields such as trade, energy and natural resources. Pray for the salvation of President Nambaryn Enkhbayar and other government leaders. Praise God for the Church in Mongolia. Pray for the translation and production of Christian literature, commentaries, devotional and teaching books, and the revision of the Bible.

Day 31

East Timor – A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 struck off East Timor’s coast on December 6, 2008, shaking buildings and sending screaming residents running into the streets. Thank God that 93 percent of East Timor’s population are Christian. There are three ethnic groups and 20 different languages in East Timor. Pray for unity and godly leaders who rule according to Biblical principles. as their young country develops.

The Gambia – Gambian leader Yaya Jammeh is known for his regime’s systematic human rights abuses and ad-hoc ruling of the country, with few political checks preventing him from sudden and drastic policy changes. Pray for the salvation of President Jammeh and all other government leaders. Take authority over the spiritual principalities and powers that are keeping the Gambian people bound to Islam, and pray that all Gambians will accept Jesus as Saviour and Lord.

West Bank & Gaza Strip – Israel reopened its crossings on December 9, 2008 with Gaza to shipments of humanitarian aid and fuel since fighting erupted on November. 5. The violence has left a six-month-old truce in doubt. Iran’s former president, Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, said Muslim anger over the siege of the militant Hamas-run Gaza Strip will eventually explode and “burn” Israelis. Pray that all of the terrorist and persecution plots of all terrorist groups will not happen, and those who have done bad things to Christian Believers will be brought to justice. Pray for peace, calm and a fair resolution to the Gaza Strip siege. Pray for the safety and protection of all Christians in the West Bank and Gaza, and that the Kingdom of God will be established in this land.
