URGENT: Watchmen are Needed for the Nation of Iran

Emergency Prayer Alert

IRAN

Terror is stalking the streets of Iran in the aftermath of a disputed election. While polls in the weeks leading up to the June l2, 2009 event had opposition leader, Mir Hossain Mousavi, and incumbent President Mahmoud Amadinejad nearly even, however, the outcome was a landslide victory for Amadinejad. This caused many international observers, as well as the Iranian public, to question the results.

In an effort to make their displeasure known, protesters have been filling the streets of Tehran. Some have said up to one million protestors have taken to the streets. The government is adamant that the election was not rigged and repeated warnings have been issued, demanding that demonstrations cease. In a speech on June l9, Iran’s leader, Ayatollah Al Khamenei, officially banned the protests.

Riot police were called in and have repeatedly put down protests with tear gas and live ammunition. Arrests have been made and dozens have been killed.

The infamous and greatly feared Basij (buh-SEEJ) militia is also involved in the government’s effort to restore order. “Formed during the l979 Islamic Revolution,” an Associated Press article explains, “the group, which is controlled by the elite Revolutionary Guard, also was unleashed on dissidents in the l990s….”

Despite the violent reaction by the government, the protests do not seem to be subsiding. As one report stated, “the split between the two sides is widening. It looks as if there is now no going back for either of them.”

PRAY:

• Pray for this conflict to cause the citizens of Iran to question the reason for their lives, what happens to them after death, Who created them and for what purpose. Let their thoughts and desires be drawn to Jesus Christ, and pray multiple thousands will accept Him as Savior and Lord during this season. (The Bible, Hebrews 9:27; Psalm 86:9)
• Pray for every scheme of satan to be turned into an opportunity for the advancement of the Kingdom of God in Iran. (The Bible, Matthew 16:18)
• Pray for this great dissatisfaction with the government to expand into a great dissatisfaction with the false religion of Islam. Pray for the demonic bondage of Islam to be broken and the people set free to worship the only True and Living God. (The Bible, I Timothy 1:17)
• Pray for all corruption to be exposed and for honesty, integrity and justice to prevail in this election controversy. Pray for God to raise up the man He wants to lead Iran. (The Bible, Daniel 2:2l)
• Pray for God to give us discernment and spiritual insight into this crisis – showing us how to pray strategically for His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven. (The Bible, Romans 8:26)
• Pray for disagreements to arise between the Ayatollahs and President Amadinejad and for the Lord to usher in His government for the people of Iran. (The Bible, Exodus 23:27)
