Join the Generosity Movement: Christian Church in Syria Helps Internally Displaced Persons
A hundred-and-five-year-old woman arrived in the Zaatari camp in Jordan at the beginning of March. She is among the million Syrians seeking refugee from the two-year-long conflict that has already claimed 70,000 lives. Refugee camps in surrounding countries provide a semblance of respite to the old and the young traumatized by the horrors of war. The youngest refugees are born in these camps.
While many flee the country, many are displaced within Syria. According to the Internal Displacement Monitoring Center, there are 3.8 million internally displaced persons (IDP) in Syria. Forced to move from their home and towns, they travel to cities like Damascus and Aleppo.
Christian Churches have been partnering with Open Doors to minister to these Syrians who have been internally displaced by the fighting. The Pastor of one such Church narrates the hardships they encounter and the risk they put themselves in, in order to provide for the needs of the IDPs. They get supplies from the suburbs where there is incessant shelling and shooting.
The Pastor related that the Christian Believers in the region view this as an opportunity to share the love of Christ to a hurting people. He announced that they had recently opened a new distribution facility that gives out relief packages.
Even though Christian Believers constantly face danger and distress, they continue to faithfully worship and follow the living Jesus Christ.
