Praise Report: A Cessation of Hostilities in South Sudan

The government and opposition in South Sudan signed a cessation of hostilities agreement in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 23 January 2014.

Although this is good news, much work needs to be done on building peace and addressing the root causes of the conflict.

Close to 10,000 people may have died. Another 740,000 people have been displaced inside South Sudan. Many fled to neighboring countries.

Praise God for the cessation of the violence. Pray it will be permanent. Pray that all parties involved will ensure that the agreement is fully implemented, and that political dialogue begins immediately, with committed support from the international community (The Bible, 2 Corinthians 5:18 ).

Pray for urgent humanitarian access and assistance to reach those affected by the conflict (The Bible, Isaiah 49:10).
