Transforming The 10/40 Window Nations Through The Power of Prayer

WIN Emergency Prayer Alert

In a move that brings international attention on the
worst violator of religious rights in the world, Jay
Lefkowitz, the U.S. envoy on North Korean human
rights, recently rebuked China for turning away North
Korean refugees.

Meanwhile, several Christian groups are focusing on
atrocities in North Korea during North Korea Freedom
Week, scheduled for April 22-30, in order to increase
awareness of the conditions in the communist
country and raise up prayers on behalf of those being
abused and disenfranchised.

U.S. REBUKES CHINA FOR NORTH KOREA REPATRIATIONS
During a speech last week, Lefkowitz, whom U.S.
President George W. Bush appointed last year to
raise the human rights issue and to provide help for
refugees fleeing North Korea, urged the world to join
the United States in pressuring North Korea to
respect its citizens’ rights.

Bush and Lefkowitz both expressed grave concerned
about China’s treatment of Kim Chun-Hee. Chun-Hee,
an asylum seeker in her 30s, was deported to North
Korea after being arrested in December for seeking
refuge at two Korean schools in China.

Lefkowitz said North Korean refugees in China “are
neglected; they are not treated humanely.”
He added that China is “violating and ignoring” it’s
international pledge to protect and recognize those
refugees and is “severely impeding” United Nation
officials from helping.

WIN 10/40 Praise Report

Praise: In India a Hindu “re-conversion” rally yields minimal turnout

A recent rally hosted by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak
Sangh (RSS), a right-wing nationalist organization in
India, had dismal results. The goal for the on April 8-
10 rally was to help “reconvert” Christians who were
previously Hindus in a public ceremony and
procession. They were targeting 2 million ex-Hindus,
but the three-day gathering only drew 200,000. The
turnout for the first day was approximately 15,000
people.

The Phulbani District Administration (PDA) set up
a “peace committee,” comprising of key leaders from
different religious groups and government officials.
Leaders from different “castes” were also invited to
represent non-Hindu groups.

The PDA warned the RSS against inflammatory
slogans during their procession against any religious
groups, including Hindu-converts to Christianity. The
RSS was also warned not to deface boundary walls
of Church buildings, Christian schools or hospitals.

Additionally, the organization was prohibited from
distributing anti-Christian or pro-Hindu literature,
placing Hindu flags or symbols on homes of Christians
and attacking Christians. If the RSS violated those
guidelines, a government official said he would cancel
the rally.
