WINDOW INTERNATIONAL NETWORK (WIN)
urges
critical prayer for a Christian Believer who has
rejected Islam in Afghanistan, but is now facing
execution after his recent arrest. Police arrested
Abdul Rahman last month after discovering him in
possession of a Bible during a custody dispute
regarding his two daughters.

WIN Emergency Prayer Alert
Prayer Report-Afghanistan (Number 11 on Persecution Ranking List)
Rahman, who is charged with abandoning Islam 16
years ago, is liable for execution under Afghanistan’s
Islamic law statutes.

The new constitution of Afghanistan proclaims
that “followers of other religions (other than Islam)
are free to exercise their faith and perform their
religious rites within the limits of the provisions of
law.” But the same document declares that “the
religion of the state is the sacred religion of Islam,”
and that Sharia law is the controlling legal
authority.

(http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=fqog5tbab.0.0.lsxk5rn6.0&ts=S0161&p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.win1040.com)Afghanistan is ranked number 11 on the
2006 World
Watch List of nations that persecute Christians,
according to Open Doors International.

Rahman, 41, reportedly became a Christian in 1990
while working with a Christian aid group in Pakistan.
The Afghan Embassy in Washington, D.C. has
received hundreds of messages since the trial of
Rahman was made public last week. Rahman is in jail,
but has not formally been charged with any crime in
the country’s controversial conversion case.

President Bush said the U.S. has influence in
Afghanistan, and he intends to use it in the case of
Rahman, to remind the Afghanistan government
about “universal values.”

“It is deeply troubling that a country we helped
liberate would hold a person to account because
they chose a particular religion over another,” Bush
said. Canada joined the U.S., Germany and Italy—all
of which have troops in Afghanistan—in protesting
the charges against Rahman.
