The Power of Words - To Build Up or To Tear Down

There is immense power in the words we speak. They may build up or they may tear down. Words have started wars. Words have eased tension. "Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances"(Proverbs 25:11). The ambitious Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia has called Iran's Supreme Leader "the Hitler of the Middle East." It drew a quick response from Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi accusing the "adventurist" crown prince of "immature, inconsiderate, and baseless remarks and behavior." Long time enemies and rivals for control of the Middle East, Shi'ite Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia are presently engaged in proxy wars in Yemen, Iraq, and Syria.

For years the ballistic bluster of North Korea's Kim Jong-Un has threatened destruction of the West with Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). The equally threatening response of President Trump of the U.S. to meet it with "fire and fury" has created an atmosphere of tension in the East. Even Pope Francis on his visit to Myanmar (Burma) has been cautioned not to even utter the word "Rohingya," a persecuted Muslim minority, insinuating that the military rule is systematically committing genocide. Loaded words could ignite World War III!

The nation of Saudi Arabia is number 14 on the 2017 Open Doors World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians in the world. Window International Network partners pray for Saudi Arabia on Day 5 in accordance with the Praying Through the Window 9: Global Terrorism and World Religions prayer calendar.

Please pray for:
  • The world's leaders to fully understand the power their words have to hurt or to build up, to cause conflict or to ease tension. May they heed the advice of many seasoned and wise counselors (The Bible, Proverbs 18:21, Proverbs 11:14).

  • Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to make decisions on well-vetted research and understanding, good judgment, and discretion in his ambitious plans for Saudi Arabia. He has claimed to advocate freedom of religion. May he carry through on this promise (The Bible, James 3:8-10).

  • We pray for secret Christian Believers in both Saudi Arabia and Iran to be bold in their faith, refusing to recant their faith in Jesus Christ. We pray for the Church to grow in spite of the persecution it is experiencing (The Bible, Acts 4:29).
