Discontent In Iran Fuels Protests
Against Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

Daily protests against both religious leader Ali Khamenei and President Rouhani are growing and gaining steam as the disaffected millenials and working poor of the countryside chafe against unemployment, rampant corruption, and rising fuel and food prices. Since Iran does not have freedom of the press, social media has served to inform both Iranians and the world of this developing threat to the Islamic Republic of Iran. Despite promises from both Khamenei when Iran's previous monarchy was overthrown in 1979 and Rouhani's attempts at moderate reform, the population has increasingly grown frustrated with the stalemate and resulting depressed economy.

Iran has the most highly educated women of any Middle Eastern country, but most are continually suppressed and denied their rights and freedoms. Life has not gotten better since the nuclear sanctions were lifted. The government has failed to address the legitimate grievances being expressed. For years there has been a growing disparity between the privileged ruling theocracy and its cohorts and the masses of the population. All the demonstrators are fed up with the lack of economic opportunity, and many are calling for a return to a constitutional monarch should the Islamic Republic collapse.

The nation of Iran is number 8 on the 2017 Open Doors World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians in the world. Window International Network partners pray for Iran on Day 8 in accordance with the Praying Through the Window 9: Global Terrorism and World Religions prayer calendar.

Please pray for:

  • Basic human rights for both men and women to be the outcome of this present struggle in Iran (The Bible, Luke 6:27-36).

  • The exposure of corruption in every aspect of the government and the economy that will lead to real reforms and opportunities for the common people (The Bible, Isaiah 1:4).

  • The country to embrace Christianity, its practice and expression. Pray the people of Iran will hear the Gospel message and receive Jesus Christ, as their Savior and Lord. (The Bible, Hebrews 13:15).
