Burkina Faso Reels from Sudden Attack by Islamist Terrorists

Burkina Faso Reels from Sudden Attack by Islamist Terrorists

Arriving in pickup trucks and shouting, "Allahu Akhbar," suspected Islamist terrorists in coordinated attacks struck both the French embassy and the army headquarters in Burkina Faso's capital on Friday. There was great confusion, especially near the embassy where other embassies were also housed. Gunfire sounded until midday. So far the number for the wounded is 90. Five of the extremists were killed near the embassy and three others near the army head of state offices.

Land-locked Burkina Faso, one of the poorest countries in Africa, shares a border with Mali where Islamic terrorism has been an on-going threat. President Macron of France just visited the region 3 months ago. Burkina Faso, a former French colony, has not previously experienced the level of violence that some of its neighbors have. So far no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, so it is unknown if Friday's attack was planned by an organized group or local insurgents.

The nation of Burkina Faso is not presently on the 2018 Open Doors World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians in the world. Window International Network partners pray for Burkina Faso on Day 8 in accordance with the Praying Through the Window 9: Global Terrorism and World Religions prayer calendar.

Please pray for:
  • The 90 individuals who were wounded in the attack to experience complete healing both physically and emotionally, and spiritually (The Bible, Luke 10:9).

  • Authorities to have the intelligence reports needed to deal with this attack in the most effective way and to take steps necessary in thwarting future attacks (The Bible, Joshua 23:10).

  • Citizens of Burkina Faso to embrace Jesus, their Savior, as they search for answers to this demonically inspired terrorist attack (The Bible, Matthew 7:7-8).
