Closure of Churches and Arrests of Christians in Algeria Escalates

The signs of the times are here! Wickedness and persecution of Christians is on the increase. Christians in Algeria can testify to the organized intensity of persecution in recent years. Organized pressure to close churches started in 2006 and has steadily increased each year. Why the sudden uptick in 2018? Many are asking that question. One Christian Aid worker in the country believes it may be due to the completion in Algeria of the second largest mosque in the Muslim world. It will bring a lot of prestige to the country. He explains, "This type of persecution is meant to instill fear... the Algerian Church is rapidly growing."

What does a closed church look like? It doesn't mean that the church (the people) are actually gone -- just their physical expression. People continue to meet in homes, coffee shops, parks. What draws them? The love they experience in knowing Jesus Christ. The Christian worker adds, "It's a love they've never experienced before and it's transformative. Plus, it's counter to what they're currently finding in their own religion, where Muslims are killing Muslims in the name of their common god." The enemy of our faith is the devil!

The nation of Algeria is number 42 on the 2018 Open Doors World Watch List of the worst persecutors of Christians in the world. Window International Network partners pray for Algeria on Day 23 by following the Praying Through the Window 9: Global Terrorism and World Religions prayer calendar.

Let us pray for:

God to divinely intervene in the current Algerian government's systematic campaign to close churches and arrest Christians (The Bible, 1 Timothy 2:1-4)

Algerian Muslims to continue to flood to Jesus Christ as they see their love for one another (The Bible, John 13:35).

Christian Believers to multiply and grow even stronger in the face of persecution (The Bible, 2 Thessalonians 1:4).
