Transforming The 10/40 Window Nations Through The Power of Prayer

10/40 Window Emergency Prayer Alert : Gaza Strip

Emergency Prayer Alert

Intercessors worldwide are needed to stand in the gap as Israel continues to hit Hamas hard in the Gaza Strip in an effort to uproot the terrorist group and stop its daily rocket attacks against Israeli cities. About 600 Palestinians have been killed since Israel began its offensive with air assaults on December 27, 2008. The U.N. says about 25% of the victims have been civilians. Israel has accused Hamas of using schools, mosques and residential areas for cover, as well as Hamas deliberately using civilians as human shields. Palestinian Christians are reportedly afraid to leave their homes in Gaza. “Everybody suffers, but I feel especially bad for the children who are going through a very tough time,” one Christian Church leader told Open Doors USA about the chaotic situation in Gaza. “The children wake up several times in the middle of the night; crying or even screaming from fear and memories that come back to their minds.” Even before the bombings, the Christians in Gaza have reportedly been living in fear from threats from Islamic militants.

WIN PRAYER ALERT

FlagIntercessors worldwide are needed to stand in the gap as Israel continues to hit Hamas hard in the Gaza Strip in an effort to uproot the terrorist group and stop its daily rocket attacks against Israeli cities.

Palestinian medical officials say at least 12 people are dead from an Israeli airstrike on January 6, 2009 outside a United Nations (U.N.) school in the northern Gaza Strip, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

About 600 Palestinians have been killed since Israel began its offensive with air assaults on December 27, 2008, according to the Los Angeles Times. The U.N. says about 25% of the victims have been civilians.

Israel has accused Hamas of using schools, mosques and residential areas for cover, as well as Hamas deliberately using civilians as human shields, the AP reported.

Palestinian Christians are reportedly afraid to leave their homes in Gaza, according to Open Doors USA.

“Everybody suffers, but I feel especially bad for the children who are going through a very tough time,” one Christian Church leader told Open Doors USA about the chaotic situation in Gaza. “The children wake up several times in the middle of the night; crying or even screaming from fear and memories that come back to their minds.”

“Those in Gaza sometimes have no idea what is going on,” the leader added. “Very often the power is down so they have no radio, television or Internet. People call their friends and family outside Gaza to stay updated about the situation in their own city.”

In an e-mail received by Open Doors USA from Suhad Massad, wife of pastor Hanna Massad and leader of the Palestinian Bible Society’s ministry in Gaza, she wrote: “The church building (Gaza Baptist) was damaged when the police station opposite of the church was bombed. In the attack, 40 people were killed instantly, but to the church only damage was done. The windows of the library fell down, but no members of the church were hurt.”

An estimated 2,500 Christians remain in Gaza, according to Open Doors USA. Last month, many families tried to leave Gaza to visit family or friends in the West Bank to celebrate Christmas and find a safe place, but according to Suhad Massad: “Only permits were given to the elderly. Many people ages 18 to 35 were not allowed to leave Gaza. So several families are separated now, which is very difficult for them.”

Even before the bombings, the Christians in Gaza have been living in fear from threats from Islamic militants, Open Doors USA said. Map

Gaza is ranked No. 42 on Open Doors’ 2008 World Watch List of nations where Christians are persecuted for their faith. According to Window International Network’s Praying Through The Window 9 prayer calendar, the day of prayer for Gaza is on day 31.

Pray for:

  • The war between Israel and Palestine to be shorter and less devastating than what military and political speculators around the world are predicting.
  • Healing and comfort for all the victims of the violence in Gaza and Israel.
  • Protection for Israel’s soldiers and the Messianic Believers, and children of Believers who are involved in the battle.
  • Christian families from Gaza to be reunited in safety.
  • The Gaza Baptist Church building to be spared more damage from the assault. Pray that the Church and Christians in Gaza will be a place of refuge for the people and a beacon of light in the midst of this war.
  • Pray that the demonic forces that are using Hamas like puppets will be toppled, and that the people will be set free to worship the Lord. Pray that Hamas leaders will experience conversion to Christianity. (1 Timothy 2:1–4)
  • Pray Mark 4:22 over every place in the world where Hamas leaders are hiding out to inflict evil deeds against innocent people. Pray that God will supernaturally expose where they are hiding including those who are financing them.
  • God to raise up a righteous government that will care of the welfare of all of its citizens.
  • The people living in Gaza rise up against Hamas and take Gaza back for themselves and their children!
  • Pray against this war escalating into a major war in the Middle East.
